How does Virscidian enable high volume data processing?
All Analytical Studio applications can be scaled to meet the throughput demands of your analytics environment. This can be achieved by adding an external dedicated processing environment such as a laboratory PC, group of dedicated laboratory PCs, rack mounted server, or a self balancing scalable server farm.

Why is this recommended?
If you process large numbers of samples in a desktop environment, then there are lots of steps that you are responsible for, such as setting up the project, selecting the raw data files, pressing the process button and the most important thing.. "waiting for the samples to process". The more samples and the larger the datasets, the longer you have to wait.

this might be a great way to grab a coffee, this may
not be so convenient when you are under pressure to get your
results published and other things done.
How does remote Server side or Dedicated PC processing help?
As data is produced by your instruments, the processing server can be made to collect this data, convert it into an appropriate processing format, process the data, and make it available for you to review when you are ready. It can even report and publish your results at the same time.
Even if you find that your data needs to be reprocessed, this can be handled too.
How much time will this save?
We have found in practice that this can save you between 60 and 80% of an analysts day based on 1000 samples processed when compared with performing the same operations on your desktop computer.
Actual time savings vary depending on many factors such as the numbers of samples to be processed, size of the raw data files, processing horsepower, available computer memory, network bandwidth, network latency and so on...

What Products are required for this?
For our remote server side or dedicated processing PC, file management and processing you would need Analytical Studio Express.
For each instrument that is responsible for acquired the raw data, you would need to install Analytical Studio Instrument Agent.
How scalable is this really?
We have direct experience in running (10's) of LC/MS instruments concurrently and analyzing the output from all of these using a load balanced server farm. The complete solution was specified and designed to handle more than 2,000,000 LC/MS/UV/ELSD/CLND substance analysis samples per year. Indeed, in our experience, exceeding this number can be handled very effectively with our current Analytical Studio Express.
