Analytical Studio Repository
What is it?
It's primary function is to allow your scientists who are managing 10,000's, 100,000's or even 1,000,000's of samples per year to quickly and effectively find their data, results and reports. It is often used in team environment where you service a large number of scientists including synthetic chemists, discovery researchers, analytical chemists, biologists etc.
From a product point of view, it is a lightweight database that integrates sympathetically with your existing IT infra-structure. It contains extracted meta-data of your results, manages all the links to your stored Compound QC or other data which is typically held on a Local Area Network (LAN) secure network share, storage area network (SAN), or archival system. It also maintains all the links to your results and reports. Our straightforward open database design allows for easy table integration and sharing of information with your other informatics systems.
Who is it for?
Analytical Support Services, Research Informatics, Discovery Informatics, Development Informatics, IT

Technical Specifications
What is the design philosophy for the database?
In our experience keeping things simple is the most effective, reliable and scalable approach, having designed, implemented and run a large scale drug {>2,000,000 substances per year} discovery corporate compound and synthesis support service. The most pressing need for users is to be able to quickly and effectively find, retrieve and work on the sample data and results that have been created in the last hours, days or weeks and when finished to publish the results for other scientists and researchers to access.
while
there is a need to recall historical data, this is something that is used rarely in practice but is still supported.
So our balance in our design approach has been to ensure high volume performance for individual researchers and cross functional teams of scientists, while
ensuring long term access if required. The database itself does not store large files or attachments, spectra or chromatograms, which are typically hard to access and produce an overly large bloated database that requires frequent table space resizing. All content in our database is simple easily accessible information that can be shared, integrated or exported into other formats or systems.
What can it store?
Extracted alpha numeric meta data and managed links to remote information storage systems. The design is easily extended to support your other informatics storage needs.
Our philosophy has been the ensure performance by keeping the content of the database as lightweight as possible and linking to other storage systems which are more appropriate for large file based management. In our experiences maintaining performance and keeping all the spectral, chromatographic data inside the database quickly degrades when dealing with the high volume throughput needs of corporate compound management, synthesis support and process chemistry.
Supported Platforms
Analytical Studio Repository is hosted on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 TM or Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition.
Due to the lightweight design of the repository, the compute needs can be considered as scalable from low end laboratory PCs all the way to rack mounted database servers. The actual choice of compute environment depends on many considerations such as available funding, numbers of samples to be managed per year, internal IT policies and so on. Our aim is to work with you to help you choose the most optimal balance of performance, scalability and monetary investment.
Can the database table content be shared with other databases?
Yes absolutely
We use an alpha numeric table storage design.
Is it easy to integrate to the database?
Yes. Our approach is to ensure easy integration with other systems both for input and output, synchronous and asynchronous communication.
Is it possible to have automated data retention policies within the database?
Yes.
Analytical Studio Express Repository supports the ability to automatically clean out tables and files which are older than a certain time frame. Different types of files and tables maybe automatically cleaned after different periods of time.
How is database security handled?
Security is handled using the host database security systems, to ensure equivalent compatibility and feature set.
