What do we mean by systems integration?

Consider one of the most common workflows that scientist have to deal with...



"A new batch analysis of some hundreds of samples is defined and queued for analysis in your LIMS or workflow management software or even as a simple paper based sample analysis request. The responsible analyst now has to generate the sample list that will be run on the instrument and set the system going. At the end of the acquisition he or she has to process the data, review the results, report and publish the results to the originator of the request."



Just within this simple workflow exists operations that can require large amounts of transcription, connection to different information services or additional files such as Microsoft ExcelTM and often lots of manual entry or manipulation. The risk of error is high and the time to complete all operations might be anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on what has to be achieved.

All in all, there exists tremendous opportunity for there to be transcription errors, failure to complete one or more parts of the process due to the inherent complexity of the process and a huge manual operation overhead all of which can lead to dissatisfaction.

While some are fortunate to have some, moderate or good levels of integration, we have found that more often that not, integration is limited in most companies we talk to, which in turn we hear costs you dearly in time, effort and lost productivity.
